چکیده
Rapid sensory detection of X-ray stimulation has been documented across a wide variety species, but few studies have explored the underlying molecular mechanisms. Here we report discovery an acute behavioral avoidance response in wild type Caenorhabditis elegans to stimulation. The endogenous C. UV-photoreceptor protein LITE-1 was found mediate locomotory response. Transgenic expression muscle cells resulted paralysis and egg ejection responses stimulation, demonstrating that ectopic can confer sensitivity otherwise insensitive cells. This work represents first demonstration rapid based genetically targeted (X-genetic) manipulation cellular electrical activity intact behaving animals. Our findings suggest strong potential for use this minimally invasive form neuromodulation transduce transcranial signals precise neural mammals, bypassing need surgical implants deliver

Caenorhabditis elegans OSR-1 regulates behavioral and physiological responses to hyperosmotic environments.
The molecular mechanisms that enable multicellular organisms to sense and modulate their responses to hyperosmotic environments are poorly understood. Here, we employ Caenorhabditis elegans to characterize the response of a multicellular organism to osmotic stress and establish a genetic screen to isolate mutants that are osmotic stress resistant (OSR). In this study, we describe the cloning of...
متن کاملSKN-1/Nrf, stress responses, and aging in Caenorhabditis elegans.
The mammalian Nrf/CNC proteins (Nrf1, Nrf2, Nrf3, p45 NF-E2) perform a wide range of cellular protective and maintenance functions. The most thoroughly described of these proteins, Nrf2, is best known as a regulator of antioxidant and xenobiotic defense, but more recently has been implicated in additional functions that include proteostasis and metabolic regulation. In the nematode Caenorhabdit...
متن کاملMammalian TRPV4 (VR-OAC) directs behavioral responses to osmotic and mechanical stimuli in Caenorhabditis elegans.
All animals detect osmotic and mechanical stimuli, but the molecular basis for these responses is incompletely understood. The vertebrate transient receptor potential channel vanilloid subfamily 4 (TRPV4) (VR-OAC) cation channel has been suggested to be an osmo/mechanosensory channel. To assess its function in vivo, we expressed TRPV4 in Caenorhabditis elegans sensory neurons and examined its a...
متن کاملThe Caenorhabditis elegans schnurri homolog sma-9 mediates stage- and cell type-specific responses to DBL-1 BMP-related signaling.
In Caenorhabditis elegans, the DBL-1 pathway, a BMP/TGFbeta-related signaling cascade, regulates body size and male tail development. We have cloned a new gene, sma-9, that encodes the C. elegans homolog of Schnurri, a large zinc finger transcription factor that regulates dpp target genes in Drosophila. Genetic interactions, the sma-9 loss-of-function phenotype, and the expression pattern sugge...
متن کاملMonitoring Autophagic Responses in Caenorhabditis elegans.
Autophagy, from the Greek auto (self) and phagy (eating), is a self-degradative process critical for eukaryotic cell homeostasis. Its rapidly responsive, highly dynamic nature renders this process essential for adapting to and offsetting acute/harsh conditions such as starvation, organelle dysfunction, and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) damage. Autophagy involves an intricate network of interactin...
